This was the big day and were lucky enough to have a clear sunny morning as we set off at 7 am (most days seemed to start at 7 am....) for our long trek uphill for about 4 hours, followed by a string of horses carrying our main luggage, propane gas, loo rolls etc etc. The isolated lodge planned for the night was inaccessible by road and all the building materials and everything else had similarly arrived by horse or mule. We all made it to the summit without having to hitch a ride and were suitably delighted! The walk continued downhill through mist and a couple of hours later we were greeted by tents erected by our cooks and were served a very welcome hot lunch of soup, pasta and even pears poached in red wine! Pisco sours hit the spot in the evening!

Well done. What an achievement! Love the photos and especially the zig zagging mules.
